Today is the day. Today is the start of the dreaded week of finals. This week we’ll all get our share of studying, late nights in the library, absurd snapchats because snapchatting is obviously more fun than studying, and an overload of caffeine.
During all of the mayhem of finals week many people may need a bit of a pick me up. So here it is, your pick me up for the week.
The Big Event. Some have experienced it, some have only heard about it, and some still don’t know what to expect, so I’m going to go over three of my favorite aspects of those insane 24 hours.
Ok so this one is a bit obvious, but seriously the dancing that goes on at this event is second to none. People bring out their best moves, and you are bound to learn a new move or two you can take with you to your next dance off. The energy in the room is electric all the time, so dancing seems like the only logical thing to do.
Some benefits of dancing include burning off calories from the pancakes we will all eat at breakfast, making new friends who admire your cool moves, and meeting kiddos who will definitely want to show off a move or two of their own.
For those of you who say, “I don’t dance,” or “dancing really isn’t my thing,” never fear you will still have fun dancing at the Big Event. Why? Because this is a dance atmosphere you have never experienced before. Everyone in that room is dancing for joy, for the kiddos and for a cure. When there are hundreds of people who are dedicated to the same cause celebrating together for 24 hours, it’s hard not to join in and dance with everyone there.
- Family Speakers
On a more serious note, the family speakers are genuinely one of the most impactful parts of the Big Event. From hour one to hour 24 they open their hearts and share their stories so the dancers can better understand what they are dancing for. These stories make dancers laugh, cry and feel about every emotion imaginable. The real beauty of these stories is getting to hear about the kiddos who are fighting so courageously. It truly is all the motivation and inspiration you need to stay on your feet and keep dancing!
- Power Hour
Ask anyone who has danced what his or her favorite parts of the Big Event are and I can just about guarantee you’ll hear something about Power Hour. If you have never experienced it, then you’re in for a treat come February. Get ready for the most intense hour-long dance party you can imagine after being on your feet for 23 hours. The adrenaline and joy of what you accomplished throughout the year builds up during this hour and becomes a bit more quantitative when the final tote board is revealed at the end of the hour. This is truly one hour you won’t soon forget.
There you have it, three of my personal favorite parts of the Big Event. Now it’s time to get back to the books, the studying, daydreaming about the Big Event and the social media procrastination. Good luck on finals and as always FTK!
