7:00 am marks the halfway point for Dance Marathon, and with that a kick butt rendition of Living on a Prayer and the knowledge that there’s only 12 hours left at the Big Event. Although the hour starts off with a bang, it is only one of many exciting things in store for the rest of the Big Event.

Directly following the halfway show, the east coast band Go Go Gadget is prepped to take the stage by storm with a slew of amp-up songs on their set list. Following their show is a performance by the UI Sparklers that’s sure to energize the crowd, and then a short break until the Dance Marathon Marathon (DMM) Runners recognition, and a family-friendly skit performed by University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital employees.

At 12:05 pm a crowd favorite takes place: the “In the Lime Light” Talent Show put on by our very own Dance Marathon kiddos! Then some select families will participate in a DM version of Family Feud, and wrap up the afternoon with one of DM’s most treasured moments, Kiddo Graduation; a time where kiddos 5 years past cancer get to walk across the IMU stage in caps and gowns, declaring their freedom from cancer.

We spend the remaining hours of the Big Event reflecting on all the hard work and dedication each and every member of UI Dance Marathon has spent towards the organization so dear to all our hearts, and spend power hour at 5 pm dancing our hearts out for the remaining moments of the Big Event. We hold each other as we watch the Dancing in our Hearts video, cherishing the kiddos whose lives were lost too soon to cancer. We’ll watch a highlight reel of DM23, and we’ll finally get to see the Tote Board reveal, what all our hard work accumulates to.
