“From July 20 to the 23, members of the Executive Council had the opportunity to attend the Dance Marathon Leadership Conference hosted by the University of Maryland.
At this conference, members of our team were able to network with students representing 170 Dance Marathon programs from across the nation. In addition to meeting other student leaders, we were able to sit in on informative breakout sessions covering areas like multi-year partnerships, data tracking and leadership development. I was chosen to present a Marathon Moment at the conference, a presentation outlining a successful initiative within a program. I spoke on the success of minimum fundraising levels and how to effectively implement them.
The weekend was inspiring, educational, and a lot of fun. We even found ourselves touring the nation’s capital at one point. The next step is bringing back everything we learned to our own program!”
“We’ve been busy working to get everything ready for Fore The Kids! There will be new and old merch sold at the event so come check it out!
All Leadership T-shirts are in so expect to get yours at our first All Leadership Meeting this fall! And, we helped Sponsorship create a sponsorship packet to hand out to potential sponsors at pitches.

“The 2 Car washes for DMM! Hills Bank was kind enough to host us for 2 car washes and we raised over $1,200 all for the runners!”
“We had an Ops Committee Carwash where we raised over $300 FTK!
People volunteered with the Iowa City Jazz Festival where they helped out Summer of the Arts with their EcoStations and sustainability efforts.
We had our second work day this month! We got a couple of large projects done for the Big Event, and have even more ideas for our fall workdays. The IMU will be crazy decked out with cars/planes and more like that for the Big Event.”
Family Relations/ Hospital
“Our Lost Island Family event was a big success! With a record attendance of nearly 850 family members and guests, the water park was filled with fun and excitement. From relaxing in the wave pool, or getting air on the water coaster, this family event was one to remember!
Hospital threw their monthly hospital event early in July. It was Independence Day themed and the kids had a blast!”
“Our $5,000 Grant Request from Aldi fulfilled. The DM Diner Program will be receiving the benefits of this grant. The money will be used to buy gift cards to hand out to the families of the pediatric cancer patients and their families treated at the hospital. The DM Diner Program provides gift cards from local restaurants to our Dance Marathon families so that they can enjoy a night away from hospital food.
We have a Sponsorship Packet! It’s linked underneath the ‘Sponsor’ section of the website. This will be used to showcase our organization to new potential sponsors.”
“All of us are helping dancers with fundraising, and getting the groups excited to be back for school to start.
We wrapped up freshman orientation, and had over +750 incoming students sign up for interest in joining DM24.”
“Throughout the month, we hosted three more canning events for leadership and runners who raised over $3,500.
Now we are in the process of developing an easier way to explain and market matching gifts. And finally, our committee is continuing to track current fundraising!”
